Mixed Media is a term that I use to cover a variety of mediums. So, mixed mediums include collage on heavy boards using various papers and textural elements. I find it difficult to keep collage totally flat, but once it gets too dimensional it becomes an assemblage piece. There are some papier-mâché, and even some works that are basically clay with other trinkets added on. I’ve also included some decoupage––just about any object, from a small cabinet to a gourd can be the substrate for a decoupage, which is gluing cut-out paper images into the piece and coating with several layers of varnish.
Key of Willingness. Part of a series of 12. Personal reflections on a journey of 32 years as of 2025.
Bursting Planets. This was made during a time when I was transitioning from tile work to wall hangings. I used polymer clays, melted glass and wood panels. SOLD
Tree of Trinkets. The border representing a postage stamp is perhaps a bit too angular for this medium, the idea being that the symbols in the Tree of Life travel. SOLD
Specialty Wall Tiles. I sold many of these special, highly decorative tiles with oddly formed shapes, adorned with jewels and trinkets. SOLD
Magnolia Cabinet. Here is used some handmade tiles and printouts of botanical illustration of figs to adorn a small storage cabinet.
Bird of Fire. I used to find these “70s” wall plaques and then design ceramic art to fit into all the shapes. SOLD
The Birds! This “70s” wall plaque just called out to me to fill it with a famous scene from Hitchcock’s thriller, “The Birds.” SOLD
Cabinet of Fire and Light. Here is an example of my very early obsession with birds. In this case, the darker side. SOLD
Decoupaged Milk Can. I once read a book on decoupage and if you follow all the steps in the traditional manner, it can be quite involved, but it's worth it. SOLD
